As the inaugural U.S.VETS site, U.S.VETS Inglewood opened with only five clients in 1993 under founder Judge Harry Pregerson, a World War II veteran. The site welcomed veterans after a VA Medical Center survey found one in four patients had no place to live after discharge. Today, the location provides transitional and permanent housing, and serves as a hub for a major grant from the California Dept. of Veterans Affairs supporting aging veterans with a network of resources in a therapeutic community. Additionally, a career development initiative helps veterans return to employment each year, and veteran family households receive “rapid rehousing” and homeless prevention services ensuring access to a safe place to stay. As a visible location in Los Angeles, U.S.VETS Inglewood welcomes high-profile partners who support services for veterans, including the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams.
